Brendan Maclean is an Australian homosexual icon. An award winning pop singer-songwriter and beloved star of the stage and screen known for his power house vocals, lyrical campery and unforgettable live performances.

Maclean kicked off his career when he was cast alongside Marcia Hines in the smash hit disco spectacular Velvet (2013) which toured for three years locally and abroad. He then made his film debut as Klipspringer in Baz Lurmann’s The Great Gatsby and released his first single Stupid (8,000,000+ streams) which saw him quickly snapped up by Universal Publishing. Maclean has since gone on to release five EP’s and two top ten Australian charting albums including ‘funbang1,’ and ‘And The Boyfriends.’

In 2017 Maclean secured his place in queer history with the release of his music video House of Air. Shot in London on film with real porn stars, it was a visual recreation of the 1966 essay Gay Semiotics, depicting uncensored acts of homoerotic sex, fisting, piss play and scat. Awarded a Berlin Music Video award and reported on globally, this cinematic work of art has since gone on to be viewed 7,500,000 times, studied by multiple arts scholars and given the nod of approval by the essayist Hal Fischer at his exhibition in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Banned from YouTube it is now celebrated as an Official Staff Selection on Vimeo.

Most recently Brendan had a superstar run as Mr Boffin in Netflix and Tim Burton’s ‘Wednesday Island’ performing to an audience of 55 million online. In 2025 Maclean had a break-out part opposite Hugo Weaving as a prison-kitchen-hand in the feature film How to Make Gravy winning his first AACTA award for the song ‘Fine’ written by Meg Washington.

Brendan has performed and supported with a myriad of impressive acts including Kylie Minogue, Alan Cumming, Darren Hayes, Kate Miller-Heidke and Amanda Palmer playing prestigious venues such as The Sydney Opera House Concert Hall, The Sidney Myer Music Bowl, The Horden Pavillion and taking his own works to the New York’s Joe’s Pub and The Lincoln Centre.

Brendan has been invited to light up private events from Monaco, Lake Como, Hawaii and Bangkok for luxury brands like BLVGARI, Tiffany’s and Belvedere. Having presented at triple j for six years Maclean continues his work as an MC most notably for Australia’s most successful charity event The Silver Party. In 2025 he enjoyed a ten week run as the lead in Craig Ilot’s French cabaret L’hotel at Sydney’s newest venue The Foundry at The Lyric.
